Dear Parents,

It’s hard to believe that we are entering the final quarter of the school year. Our Spring Break begins on March 15 and school will be closed from March 15 to March 24. School we will resume on Tuesday, March 25.  I wish you all a very restful and enjoyable break.  Once we are back, it will be time to get ready for our Prom which will be held at the Santa Anita Race Track on April 5.

In April, students will begin academic achievement testing.  The California Standards Test, the CSTs under the STAR testing system, has been suspended by the State of California as it prepares to embark upon a system that measures student achievement of the new Common Core State Standards.

For this year, sophomores will take the federally mandated Life Science test and the CAHSEE, which was taken earlier. Score reports will arrive in April.

Juniors will take the Early Assessment Program (EAP) tests in April for Math and Science. Juniors will also take the Smarter Balanced assessment in math and English that begins to test knowledge of the CCSS.

In May, our heavy hitters come out for the AP exams (Advanced Placement) in any courses in which they are enrolled and have elected to take an exam.  These are important exams which may earn the students college credit.

Our school has been preparing our students for these exams and they will be ready. Parents please work with us to support them as we begin this important season.

As we begin the fourth quarter please remember:

  • There is a direct correlation between attendance and success.  Please ensure that your child is at school every day ready to learn.
  • School Loop has become a powerful tool in our communication with our OHS families.  I am so pleased that over 2,000 of our households have registered.  School Loop enables you to monitor your Childs progress frequently, which will allow us to communicate and work together to remediate any academic issues that arise. If you have not registered for School Loop, we can help you at school, or you can go to www.ohs.cjuhsd.net  to register on your own.
  • Students have taken advantage of our extended student learning time with RISE, our Saturday Academic Program.  We have had over 2,500 students take advantage of this program in the first semester.  The students receive an additional four hours of instruction and we are averaging 400 students per Saturday.  We look forward to offering our Rise Program throughout the second semester

Ontario High School has experienced tremendous success by setting high standards and providing on-going support for every student. Individual student achievement is our goal! We celebrate our students’ academic achievements and we take pride in the fact that each year several of our students are accepted into some of the most prestigious college and universities in the nation.

Thank You!

Cary Willborn
